Biography of Dolores Shavers, LPC, CH,t, BCPCLicensed Professional Counselor-Internship SupervisorProfessional BiographyDolores Shavers has extensive experience in a wide rage of disciplines enabling her to use those experiences in different facets of her professional endeavors. Presently, she is Owner/CEO of her own business, Shavers Plus Counseling Solutions. This business was established after she retired as a secondary school counselor having served 10 years in that capacity. Dolores Shavers however was not ready to retire her skills. She describes her work that of empowerment of others.Dolores uses in her business as a motto: The greatest gift that I can give you is my time. This implies that her clients are the utmost importance to her. Some of her counseling development programs include: Anger Management, Teen Youth Groups, Positive Steps parenting groups, Over-Comers Group, Girls Chat Room, Conflict Resolution, Internship Development, Antisocial Behavior, Vocational Stress Group, Sexual Abuse Group, Spiritual Counseling and Hypnotherapy and Relaxation. As a Professional Therapist, educator, speaker, supervisor, adjunct professor, she is diverse in her work. Dolores teaches a Womens Issues class at the local Community College (Cedar Valley Community College of the Dallas County Community College District). The Womens Issues class is designed to address issues involving gender differences and to emphasize the womens ability to implement change through motivation, information, education and support from other women. This holistic approach to womens development focuses on womens relations to themselves, their families, careers and society and offers the opportunity to develop communication and problem-solving skills which encompasses education. She has taught this class for three years and has taught at this college for many years in the Human Development Department. She is still serving as a part-time adjunct professor. Her community services and committee works are vast which include prison ministry, evangelism and witness team, teaching the Over-Comers Group Daily Choice, Out-Reach via her church, the Greater Golden Missionary Baptist Church where the phenomenal Fabian Keith Jacko is her pastor. As a member at 3-G (as the church is called), she also serves in other capacities. She serves on the Board of the First African Freedom Church, former very active member of the Lions International, Member of the People to People Program Leader where she responsible for 20 students abroad, including a 3 weeks trip to Australia. She is co-author of the book with her sister, Dr. Alyce Jackson of Golden Dawn Hypnotherapy (Fullerton, CA) entitled A Hynotherapist Handbook 2008. She developed a seminar for therapist, Touched by a Therapist 2006, Co-Author of the manual: Smokeless Tobacco, l989 with Linda Jones. She is presently writing a grant to receive funds to expand her business. She wants to serve more people. Her one and only son, James Weldon Shavers II, Minister, Author, Spiritual Counselor, Song writer/composer, youth leader/director and a husband to Maria, teacher with the Forney Independent School District and the father of 2 daughters/ one son has been very instrumental in her life in every scope and array. Mr. Shavers has written several workbooks for adolescents that are used in her counseling sessions.BackgroundHer early work experience includes teaching at a high school for 15 years. As a teacher for the mildly mentally challenged, she developed an annual event and called it the Peppermint Ball. It was well known within the school district. She invited very special guests as the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. She became the department leader over-seeing the work of teachers in her department. From this position, she advanced to become a Drug Prevention Specialist. She trained staff, security officers, principals, teachers in regards to prevention and intervention. She organized the McGruff Prevention Program and trained all Elementary Counselors in the Dallas Independent School District to use the program to teach prevention.The grant was not re-funded for this program. Dolores became a specialist in another area of the school district. Her task was to assist and evaluate teachers. The grant was not refunded and Dolores then became a school counselor where she retired but to become a business owner and continue teaching part-time in the college.In addition to her current professional practice as a therapist and supervisor and also professor, Dolores devotes much of her time to her church activities and social issues. SupervisionMaster level Counselors seeking to become licensed must work under a state approved licensed supervisor. Dolores Shavers completed her studies and became a supervisor and has helped over 30 counselors to receive their state license. Many are in private practice themselves. Plans are being established for her new program, The Supervisors Konnection. Other supervisors will be able to meet for an hour and half to eat and discuss their needs. Conclusion statementDolores Shavers, LPC, BCPC, CH.t has emerged in Dallas after serving as a school counselor. She serves her clients as well as serves in her church. She is happy that God has given her the energy and wisdom to stay focused on the beautiful life that He has given her.
